Salad with Chinese cabbage, corn and ham

Product set:

  • Canned corn - 1 can (340-400g);
  • Ham - 200-250 gr;
  • Peking cabbage - 500 gr;
  • Mayonnaise - 100g;
  • Salt, pepper - as needed;

Recipe for salad with Chinese cabbage, corn and ham:

  1. It is advisable to take Chinese cabbage that is not very large in size, weighing up to 500-600 grams. Small Chinese cabbage has a finer leaf structure than larger Chinese cabbage. Wash the cabbage, remove damaged areas of the leaves and shake off the water. Chop the Chinese cabbage quite thinly with a sharp knife and place in a deep bowl where it will be convenient to mix the salad.
  2. It is better to take ham that is not fatty, without pieces of lard; you can take smoked chicken breast or beef balyk. Cut the ham into small oblong pieces.
  3. Carefully open the can of canned corn and drain the liquid. Many people recommend rinsing the corn under water, but I never do this; I drained the liquid and immediately added it to the salad. In any case, this does not change the taste of corn.
  4. Combine all ingredients together, add mayonnaise, salt and pepper (this is optional, because mayonnaise already contains salt). Mix the salad and serve immediately. This is one of those types of salad that should not be stored for a long time, because the taste is lost during storage. This is due to the fact that Chinese cabbage is very juicy and releases a lot of juice after cutting, which means the salad becomes watery. Therefore, we prepare it and eat it right away!

Salad with Chinese cabbage and croutons

And another version of salad with croutons. Of course, it’s tastier with homemade ones, but if you don’t have them, take ready-made ones, only with a compatible taste, for example with herbs.

General advice. The question often arises of how best to cut Chinese cabbage so that the structure of the salad can be felt and the hard centers of the leaves can be used. I admit, I tried a bunch of options and found “mine.”

Disassemble the head of cabbage into leaves. Next, use a large knife to cut out the white centers. You should get a very elongated triangle. We will always cut them finely, about 0.5 cm. It is better to tear the green part of the leaf with your hands, this way more vitamins are preserved. But if there is no time left for this, we simply cut it into much larger pieces.

This method is especially convenient when you don’t need the whole head of cabbage in quantity. The remaining part of the fork will stay fresh much longer.

So, there are a lot of options: satisfying, easy, fast! I hope you will definitely choose the one that suits you.
